Healing Through Food
I want to thank you so much for visiting my website and give you a little glimpse into who I am and why I do what I love!
Growing up, food was the way our family connected. With an Italian father and a mother with a knack for baking, there was always something amazing brewing in our kitchen. My appreciation for food stems from these younger memories. I value the time and effort my parents took to feed me and my siblings homemade, hearty food. Through my youth and early adulthood, finding a balance with food was a constant struggle. Too much, too little, never in moderation. Soon after high school, I decided to extend my education through culinary school. It was everything I was looking for and more! I realized my strengths lie in the kitchen with taking the lead, working under pressure and using my creativity to create delicious, beautiful food.
My negative and misguided thoughts continued even after culinary school. What I later realized was that food wasn’t the issue, it was something inside of me that wasn’t fulfilling my soul. The constant battles were merely a reflection of the lack of self-acceptance, appreciation of my body and the proper understanding of how to care for it. Fast forward to a few years and I began to become serious about my physical and mental health. Still, notes of excess lingered at work and often when I worked out. Some days I would leave the gym crying out of shear stress, frustration and exhaustion. Balance was still not in the picture! Once I discovered the program the Nutritional Therapy Association offered, I knew it was meant for me. This program taught me how to properly fuel my body through nutrition and how to use food as support from within. Finally, a light bulb clicked in my head! Once I started viewing food as a personal way to care for myself, my inner dialogue changed. Acceptance flowed in and personal grace allowed me to stop being so hard on myself. I found an inner gentleness I had never felt. I knew this newfound knowledge was not only something I was lacking, but something that needed to be shared with others.
Nowadays, you can still find me cooking and working out, but my crazy, adrenally run-down eyes are much calmer. I love time outdoors with my dogs and cooking for my boyfriend or family. “Slowing down” is still not a phrase I am completely sure the meaning of because I believe it’s in my character to be a completely committed, full force person. The difference now is I have learned to recognize when I need to take a breath and do something for myself.
After almost 10 years in the restaurant industry, I took a big leap of faith and left my professional chef job to pursue my passion of healing through food. Through the Nutritional Therapy Association, I became a Nutritional Therapy Consultant. I finally could combine my love for cooking with my knowledge of how to offer healing through food. I believe food is one of the most nurturing things we can provide ourselves, but also one of the most overlooked aspects of health.
Through Abundant Plate Wellness, I strive to teach others how to fuel and nourish themselves by addressing the bio individual needs of each person. Equally as important is educating them on what best supports their unique needs. I know I am not the only one who has faced the struggles with finding a healthy relationship with food, and very much want to change that for others. Each client receives a nutritional assessment, functional testing, individual meal planning, recipes and weekly contact, for whatever time is needed. I work to address all aspects of one’s lifestyle to create a bigger picture of healing that extends beyond just food. I am here to support, educate and encourage those who choose to begin a new nutritional journey. Because of my specialized experience in a professional kitchen, I can not only offer this nutritional guidance, but also food preparation, catering and private cooking. I prepare individual meals, family meals or meals for larger groups and strive to use as much fresh, local, organic and seasonal food as nature allows me. I am able to provide a step above a regular ‘cookie-cutter’ catering or meal preparation business by offering restaurant quality food that is void of harmful, damaging ingredients that we encounter in so many every day foods. At Abundant Plate Wellness, I want to help you put more on your plate, whether that be nutritionally, spiritually or mentally!
I appreciate you taking the time to learn a little bit about me, and I hope we can talk about food, weights or dogs soon!
In good health,
